The Lagos State Police Command has started an investigation into the death of a 20-year-old man who was allegedly killed by gunmen.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday.

SP Hundeyin stated that the Okokomaiko Police Division received information from concerned members of the public on Friday at about 10:30 p.m. “The informants said that at about 10:10 p.m. on the same date at Abeokuta Street, Okokomaiko in Ojo area of Lagos, four unidentified gunmen were seen chasing a young man in the area,” he said.

He added that the gunmen allegedly shot the young man multiple times in the head, stomach, and leg until he died. “After their evil act, they abandoned the body and took to their heels and escaped,” Hundeyin explained.

Upon receiving the information, a team of anti-crime officers quickly went to the scene and met a woman named Vivian, who identified herself as the mother of the deceased. She confirmed that the young man lived with her at the same address.

“Photographs of the deceased were taken, and the body was evacuated and deposited at Mainland General Hospital Mortuary, Yaba, for autopsy,” Hundeyin said.

He also mentioned that the investigation is ongoing, and efforts are being made to arrest the fleeing suspects. The case file will be transferred to the state Criminal Investigation Department, Panti-Yaba, for further investigation.
