Police probe 300lvl Kebbi varsity student death

The Kebbi State Police Command has launched an investigation into the death of Zaharadden Nuhu, a 300-level student of the Federal University Birnin Kebbi, who died after sustaining injuries in an incident at a private student residence in Kalgo Local Government Area.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, June 11, 2026, at a private compound occupied largely by students but not owned or managed by the university.

In a statement released on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, said preliminary findings showed that the victim was found with injuries and was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Birnin Kebbi, where he later died while receiving treatment.

According to him, the assailant responsible for the attack is yet to be identified.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was found with injuries and was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Birnin Kebbi, where he unfortunately passed away while receiving treatment. The assailant is yet to be identified,” Usman stated.

Usman said police officers visited the scene, secured the area, and commenced an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. He added that efforts were ongoing to apprehend those responsible and ensure justice is served.

“Following the report, a team of police officers visited the scene, secured the area, and commenced investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and apprehend the person(s) responsible,” he said.

The command urged residents of Kalgo and members of the university community to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information while investigations continue.

“The Command urges members of the public, particularly residents of Kalgo LGA and students, to remain calm and avoid speculation. While the incident is regrettable, members of the public are encouraged to await the outcome of the investigation and avoid drawing conclusions that may create unnecessary tension or affect any group or community,” the statement added.

The police also called on anyone with useful information to assist ongoing investigations, assuring that all information would be treated with confidentiality.

Usman said the command remained committed to uncovering the truth behind the incident and would keep the public updated as the investigation progresses.

The death has caused concern among students and residents, with many awaiting the outcome of the police probe.
