Police parade 21 suspected Yoruba nation agitators after secretariat breach
The Oyo State Police Command on Monday paraded 21 suspects linked to the invasion of the Oyo government secretariat on Saturday, April 13th.
These suspects, claiming to be members of the Yoruba nation agitators, were displayed alongside seized exhibits, including guns, ammunition, plaques with the Yoruba nation insignia, cutlasses, walkie-talkies, and other communication gadgets.
Addressing journalists, the Oyo state commissioner of police, Adebola Hamzat, stated that the suspects would face charges of treasonable felony and terrorism as investigations continue to uncover their sponsors and apprehend other suspects still at large.
The invasion of the Oyo State Government Secretariat occurred when armed intruders attempted to enter the Governor’s Office and the state House of Assembly complex on Saturday. Despite the secretariat being on break and deserted, the intruders mounted an assault, prompting swift action from law enforcement.
Eyewitnesses reported that it took the combined efforts of policemen on duty, operatives of the South-West Security Network (Amotekun), and other security reinforcements to halt the intrusion.
The suspects arrived at the secretariat in buses, displaying a flag suspected to belong to certain agitators.
