Police officer arrested for assaulting, damaging student’s ‘expensive’ iPhone

The Nigerian police force has arrested one of its officers who assaulted a Delta State University student for owning an “expensive” iPhone.

The force said an orderly trial has commenced and the preceding will bring out appropriate disciplinary action on the yet to be identified officer.

In a statement, the force said such behavioural pattern is not a true reflection of NPF especially under the leadership of Inspector General of police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu.

WuzupNaija had earlier reported that the bitter policeman said he has worked for over 13 years and cannot afford any expensive phone talk less of an iPhone.

In the video which has since gone viral, the officer could be seen shouting at the student and angrily smashed the iPhone.

According to one Stephanie Oghalezino Rapheal, @ceo_zinorapheal, the incident happened during a stop and search operation in Okpe, Delta State.

The statement reads;

“The commissioner of Police Delta State Command has confirmed that the police SGT reported to have harassed and embarrassed an innocent student is now in police custody.

“Also, orderly trial has commenced and the preceding will bring out appropriate disciplinary action on him.

“The Force wishes to state that such behavioural pattern is not a true reflection of Nigeria Police Force especially under the leadership of Inspector General of police, Ag. IGP MA Adamu.”
