The Niger State Police Command said its operatives have killed three suspected kidnappers during a gun battle in Kokolo Forest, Magama Local Government Area.
Police spokesman Wasiu Abiodun, in a statement on Monday, said the operation was carried out on September 12, 2025, around 6:30 a.m. by the Command’s Special Task Team alongside vigilante members.
Abiodun explained that the suspects opened fire when the team stormed their hideout, leading to an exchange of gunfire. Three of the suspects were killed, while others escaped with gunshot wounds. One victim was rescued during the operation.
According to him, two AK-47 rifles and 49 rounds of live ammunition were recovered from the scene. He added that efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing members of the gang.
“Members of the public, most especially those in neighbouring villages, are hereby urged to quickly inform the Police and other security agencies if anyone is found with gunshot injuries,” Abiodun said.
In a related development, the Ogun State Police Command killed two suspected kidnappers during a gun duel in the Owode-Egba area of the state, rescuing three abducted victims unhurt.
Similarly, the Delta State Police Command announced on September 17 that its operatives killed two suspected kidnappers at Owa Ekei Boji Boji Owa in Ika North-East LGA of the state.
