Police in Kano arrest housewife over illegal confinement of stepson for 15 years

The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a housewife, (named withheld) for allegedly confining her stepson for 15 years.

Spokesman of the Command, DSP Abdullahi Haruna, who made the confirmation, via a press statement released late on Monday evening, after the police rescued the 40-year-old victim, Ibrahim Lawan, confirmed by her husband (name withheld) who is now at large.

According to the statement:

”On August 16, 2020, at about 11: am received a report that one, Ibrahim Lawan of Sheka quarters in Kumbotso Local Government Area was allegedly confined for 15-years by his father.

Also, the statement, disclosed that the victim was confined in a dilapidated room inside the suspect’s home, without proper feeding and healthcare.

”The Command medical and Operation Puff Adder team, led by SP Magaji Musa promptly swung into action.”

Shortly after, according to the statement, the victim was rescued and referred to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) for treatment, while efforts are in progress the father of the victim, who is still at large.

Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, Hbu Ahmad, has ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation (SCID) for discreet investigation.

It should be recalled that the Command on August 13, 2020, rescued a 30-year old man, Ahmad Aminu, confined in a car garage for seven years by his father (name withheld), at Farawa quarters in Kumbotso Local Government Area.
