Police, hunters apprehend suspected cultists, motorcycle thief

The Osun State Police Command has disclosed the arrest of three suspected cultists within Osogbo, the state capital, in a collaborative effort between police operatives and local hunters.

Confirming the arrest, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Yemisi Opalola, informed DAILY POST that the apprehended individuals were involved in an attack around 12:30 pm at the Alekuwodo area.

“These suspected cultists have been causing trouble in the Alekuwodo area of Osogbo,” Opalola stated. “Upon receiving the information, detectives from the Anti-Cultism Unit swiftly moved into action and arrested three suspects, while others managed to escape. The apprehended individuals confessed to being members of the Aye Confraternity.”

Additionally, Opalola disclosed the arrest of a suspect named Sodiq at the Ilesa Garage area of Osogbo. Sodiq is allegedly associated with a notorious gang known for motorcycle theft.

Operatives from the Osun police command’s Anti-Cultism Unit, along with members of the Nigeria Hunters and Forest Security Service, conducted the arrest during a patrol in the area.

Opalola emphasized the ongoing efforts to apprehend other members of the fleeing gang.

A resident of the Alekuwodo area, Adebayo, recounted the reign of terror inflicted by the suspected cultists, noting their frequent disturbances in the neighborhood. He described the moment police officers swooped in on the suspects during a gathering, resulting in the apprehension of three individuals while others managed to evade capture.
