The Bayelsa State Police Command has begun a manhunt for a suspected internet fraudster, commonly known as a Yahoo boy, after a young woman was found dead in a hotel room in the Igbogene area of Yenagoa, the state capital.
According to the PUNCH, the sad incident on Sunday, June 1, 2025.
A source, who asked not to be named stated that the girl had checked into the hotel with the young man, who left shortly after they arrived.
“The lifeless body of a young girl was found in a hotel at Igbogene on Saturday, leaving the area in confusion,” the source said.
“She lodged in the hotel with a suspected Yahoo boy who left immediately after. The hotel manager who found the dead body reported the incident to the police at Igbogene.”
The Bayelsa State Police Public Relations Officer, Musa Muhammad, confirmed the case on Sunday and said the police are working to find the suspect and uncover what happened.
“We received the report yesterday (Saturday), though no arrest has been made for now. But an investigation is ongoing,” Muhammad said.
He added, “We are making serious inquiries to ensure that the culprits are brought to book. Also, an autopsy will be done on the deceased to know the actual cause of death.”
The identity of the young woman has not been made public yet, and the police are asking anyone with useful information to come forward.
This case adds to growing concerns about the rising dangers linked to internet fraudsters and suspicious hotel incidents in some parts of the country.
