The Borno State Police Command has given out over N13.4 million to the families of ten police officers who died while on duty.

The money was handed over on Monday during a quiet event at the police headquarters in Maiduguri.

Commissioner of Police in Borno, Naziru Abdulmajid, presented the cheques on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun. The money came from the Group Life Assurance and the IGP Family Welfare Scheme.

The police spokesperson, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, said the money is meant to ease the hardship that the families are facing after losing their loved ones. CP Abdulmajid told the families that their loved ones’ service and sacrifice will not be forgotten. He also encouraged them to use the money wisely and to invest it in ways that will help the children and dependents of the late officers.

One of the beneficiaries, Mr. Jerry Joel, spoke on behalf of the families. He thanked the police and the IGP for standing by them in their time of sorrow.
