The Lagos State Police Command has refuted claims that a missing Lagos State University graduate, Adedamola Ogunbode, was killed for ritual purposes.

Police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed this on Wednesday stating that Ogunbode had been declared missing but denied reports that his mutilated body had been found.

“A report was made to the police that the said graduate was missing, and three suspects, including a prophet, have been arrested. However, the police did not discover any mutilated body, as claimed on social media. He is still missing, and we are investigating a case of a missing person, not murder. There is no dead person anywhere,” Hundeyin clarified.

The development comes after LASU management issued a statement calling for justice over Ogunbode’s disappearance.

In a statement on Tuesday, the university’s Deputy Registrar and Coordinator for Information and Public Relations, Oluwayemisi Thomas-Onashile, expressed concerns over the incident.

She cited reports alleging that Ogunbode’s remains were discovered in a church compound in Ojo, Lagos State.

“The university management is deeply saddened to learn of the tragic circumstances surrounding Ogunbode’s disappearance. The deceased, fondly known as Horlar, was allegedly killed by a prophet for ritual purposes. He had been missing since January 16,” the statement read.

The university condemned what it described as a senseless act of violence and called on security agencies to ensure swift justice.

“The prophet of the church has been arrested and is assisting with the investigation. The university extends its condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues. His untimely disappearance is a terrible loss to the entire LASU community, and we share in the grief of those mourning him.”

The management urged students to remain calm while authorities conduct their investigations, assuring them of LASU’s commitment to ensuring their safety.
