The Nigeria Police Force has apprehended Ambassador Wilfred Bonse, a politician, in connection with the theft of over N200 million from the crypto wallet of Patricia Technologies.

The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, made this announcement in a statement released on Friday, revealing that Bonse played a role in laundering N50 million out of the stolen funds.

According to Adejobi, the National Cybercrime Center of the Force has been actively investigating a complex financial fraud case reported by Patricia Technologies Limited.

The case involves criminal conspiracy, unauthorized modification of computer systems, network data, and the unlawful diversion of funds exceeding N200 million, as outlined in a petition to the Inspector General of Police.

The spokesperson stated, “Outlining the details of the alleged theft, conversion of cryptocurrency wallets, and unauthorized fund diversion from the company’s Flutterwave account, the petition specifically mentioned some individuals currently at large. However, painstaking efforts on their trail led to the arrest of one Ambassador Wilfred Bonse.”

Wilfred Bonse is alleged to have conspired in laundering N50 million, part of the fraudulently diverted N607 million from Patricia Technology company’s account to his bank account through a cryptocurrency wallet.

Patricia Technologies have previously faced a cyberattack earlier this year, resulting in the loss of billions in customers’ funds.

The company converted the value of customers’ assets to Patricia Tokens, promising repayment at a later date.
