The Ogun State Police Command has arrested one Qawiyu Oloyede, a resident of Sokoto Road, Atan Ota, for allegedly posting a fake bandit attack video on social media to create fear and panic over a non existent invasion.

According to The Punch, a video circulating online on Sunday showed Oloyede being interrogated by police officers over the incident.

The suspect, said to be a tailor, reportedly confessed that he created and shared the video to gain followers on social media.

“I created the fake bandit attack and posted it on social media to gain followers,” he said.

“The Fulani man I used is a herder who usually brings his cows to graze behind my shop. Even the herder did not want to participate in the act.

“I cannot read or write because I did not go to school. It was my apprentice that wrote the accompanying message to the video. I have only done two such videos, which I posted on Monday and Wednesday.”

The spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the arrest, adding that the matter had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

“The suspect is with the SCID,” Babaseyi said.
