Police arrest 80-year-old man for defiling minor

The Plateau State Police Command has arrested an 80-year-old man, Peter Ashom, for allegedly sexually abusing an 11-year-old girl.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr Julius Alawari, confirmed the arrest to reporters on Thursday.
Alawari said, “On October 9, we received information that one Peter Ashom, 80, lured an 11-year-old girl into his room and had carnal knowledge of her.
”He did that under the pretense of sending her on errands anytime she goes to sell groundnuts to him. He threatened to kill her if she told anyone.
”The case is still under investigation and will be charged to court upon completion of due investigation.”
Alawari stated that the case is still under investigation and will be taken to court once the necessary inquiries are complete.
The police commissioner also announced that a total of 37 other suspects have been arrested in various operations between October 1 and the present date.
The police recovered 18 homemade rifles and 23 rounds of ammunition during these arrests.
