Police arraign man 27, for illegal possession of firearms in Benue

The Police Command in Benue on Friday arraigned Godwin Terzungwe A.K.A Emperor in a Makurdi Upper Area Court 2B, for allegedly being in possession of firearms.

Terzungwe is also being arraigned for his alleged membership of an unlawful society.

The Police Prosecutor, Insp. Rachael Mchiave who was holding brief for Insp. Veronica Shaagee, told the court that the AntiCultism Squad, State CID, in conjunction with Benue State Community Volunteer Guard, Makurdi, arrested the accused on Dec. 31, 2021 during patrol.

Mchiave said that Terzungwe, who resides behind Modern Market, Makurdi was arrested with one locally-made pistol and four live cartridges.

She said during police investigation, the accused confessed that he owned the said locally-made pistol, cartridges and that he was also a member of the “Junior Vikings Confraternity, JVC with his cult name as “Chameleon”.

The prosecutor said investigation into the matter was still ongoing and requested for additional time to complete it.

She said the accused contravened Sections (2) of the abduction, hostage taking, Kidnapping, secret cult and similar activities Prohibition Law of Benue State and Section 3(c) of the Robbery and Firearms Special Provision Act, 2007.

When the case came up for mention, no plea was taken for want of jurisdiction.

The Magistrate, Mrs Dooshima Ikpambese ordered that the accused person be remanded at the Federal Correctional Centre Makurdi and adjourned the case till Feb. 16, for further mention.
