Plane carrying power minister crash-lands in Oyo

Published

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and his aides had a narrow escape on Friday evening when a private aircraft with registration number 5N-AMM conveying them crash-landed in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.

The flight, which took off from Abuja at 6:41 p.m., crash-landed around 7:21 p.m. with ten individuals on board.

The control tower lost communication with the aircraft and immediately alerted emergency services.

There were no fatalities, although the aircraft sustained significant damage.

The cause of the crash is still unknown, but some sources suggest it could be due to bad weather or mechanical failure.

The aircraft remains in the bush near runway 22, with security personnel on standby.

A preliminary report on the incident indicates that the Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting Services, the Aviation Security, and other airport officials promptly responded to the scene.

The Nigerian Air Force airport commandant and his team were also present.

The report states, “At about 0825hrs of 03/11/2023, an aircraft with registration number 5N-AMM that conveyed the incumbent minister of power, Abdul Waheed Adebayo Adelabu, and his entourage crash-landed along runway 22 and skidded off the runway into a nearby bush. The control tower reported on the radio that they lost communication with the just-landed aircraft and immediately called on the ARFFS, the AVSEC, and other needed airport officials who reported almost immediately to the scene. The 3 cabin crew and the 7 passengers were all rescued from the damaged aircraft.”

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau has initiated an investigation into the cause of the incident.

According to James Odaudu, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at NSIB, “Our investigators are on site, and further information will be provided as soon as possible.”
