In recent times the Nigeria soldiers have sacrificed their lives for the unity of Nigeria in the fight against insurgency.
Paying supreme price with ones life is not an easy decision for a soldier but their calling and training compel them to present themselves as sacrifice in defence of the sovereignty of their country either in domestic or international military operations.
Most times, they die while few of them luckily survive. Often times, the body of the dead soldiers are not seen for burial, especially if it is shattered by heavy artillery bombardment.
It is therefore customary for the military to honour their colleagues who survived wars and later passed on to the world beyond after a fulfilled life.
This honour called ’21 military Gun salute’ is only given to war veterans who served meritoriously without any tainted records. Hence, the military recently gathered in honour of a war veteran as seen in the pictures of 21 Gun salute and military parade in honour and recognition of the meritorious service of Pa Raphael Abiodun Orunkoya, the father of Barrister (Dr) Anthony Orunkoya, a human rights activist who is the Africa president of Alliance Against Terrorism, Violence and Inhuman Treatment(ATVIT) as well as the National President Movement For Survival of Democracy(MSD) on 21th October 2016.
The military burial ceremony was for the deceased exemplary participation in various military operations within and outside Nigeria as a gallant and war veteran.
It is our candid recommendation that the military command should improve on the welfare of its officers and men while in service and outside service for greater dedication.
Military burial of this nature for veterans, if sustained will go a long way in encouraging our soldiers in the fight against insurgency because they would realise that after service and a fulfilled life, they would be honoured as shown in the pictures below:
