Published

Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro, has provided assurance that striker Kelechi Iheanacho is now fully fit to join the team for the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.

Peseiro shared this update during an interview with reporters in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, late on Monday.

In his statement, Peseiro mentioned, “Kelechi will be with us in Cote d’Ivoire. He has finished his treatment at Leicester City.” The coach expressed confidence in Iheanacho’s recovery, indicating that the striker would be ready to contribute to the team’s performance in the AFCON.

Iheanacho had been sidelined due to a muscular injury, leading to his absence from the Super Eagles’ week-long training camp in Abu Dhabi. The Leicester City striker opted to stay at his club to undergo full recovery in preparation for the AFCON, set to kick off on Saturday in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

The Super Eagles, a three-time AFCON champions, are scheduled to depart for Cote d’Ivoire on Wednesday after attending a special dinner hosted by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in Lagos on Tuesday.

The month-long AFCON tournament commences on Feb. 11, with the Super Eagles embarking on their campaign against Equatorial Guinea at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan.
