Published

Jose Santos Peseiro has agreed to extend his contract as the Head Coach of the Super Eagles, the Senior Men’s National Team of Nigeria, according to the Nigeria Football Federation.

The NFF announced the extension on its website, saying that Peseiro will continue to lead the Super Eagles in the upcoming 34th Africa Cup of Nations finals in Cote d’Ivoire, where he is expected to reach at least the semi-finals.

The NFF said that Peseiro accepted a pay cut on his previous terms and that he will also be in charge of the Super Eagles B, the team of home-based professionals who compete in the African Nations Championship every two years.

“As stipulated in the original contract, drawn in May 2022, the Portuguese has been handed the mandate to lead the Super Eagles to, in the minimum, the semi-finals of the 34th Africa Cup of Nations finals taking place in Cote d’Ivoire in a few months.

He has now agreed to continue in the role after accepting a pay cut on his earlier terms, with the new agreement also putting him in charge of the Super Eagles B – the home-based professionals who contest the biennial African Nations Championship.” The statement read

Peseiro was appointed the Head Coach of the Super Eagles in May 2022 after searching for a suitable replacement for Gernot Rohr, who left the team in April 2022.

Peseiro has a wealth of experience in coaching various clubs and national teams, including Sporting Lisbon, Porto, Braga, Al-Hilal, Rapid Bucharest, Romania, and Saudi Arabia.
