The National Youth Service Corps [NYSC] has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission [INEC]to pay all outstanding training allowances and other entitlements of the corps members who participated in last Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections.

The NYSC, in a statement on Monday by NYSC’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Mrs Adenike Adeyemi, said INEC must avoid delay in the settlement of the allowances as another phase of the general elections on March 9 was near.

The commission also demanded that INEC and security agencies must “continue to evolve strategies for the protection of all corps members throughout this election period and thereafter.”

The statement read,

“We assure corps members of our commitment to working with relevant stakeholders to promptly address all matters relating to security and general welfare throughout and after this election season.

“In this regard, we call on INEC to, as a matter of urgency, settle all outstanding training allowances and other entitlements of the corps members who participated in the conduct of the presidential and National Assembly elections.

“The commission should avoid delay in the settlement of corps members’ allowances for the next phase of the elections.

“We appeal to INEC and security agencies to continue to evolve strategies for the protection of all corps members throughout this election period and thereafter.”

The NYSC noted that the Director-General, Maj.Gen. Suleiman Kazaure, saluted the courage, discipline and patriotism of corps members during the elections and urged them to be resilient despite the challenges of welfare and insecurity.
