Relationship coach and lead pastor of David’s Christian Centre, Kingsley Okonkwo, has unveiled a Christian matchmaking platform called Mentor To Marry for singles seeking marriage, with membership plans ranging from N70,000 to N700,000 annually .
The platform describes itself as a “guided marriage-preparation and matching community for serious Christian singles who desire intentional, Kingdom-minded marriages” .
Promoting the platform on X, Okonkwo lamented what he described as the increasing commercialisation of relationships. “I feel for the men of this generation….relationships have been so commercialized nowadays that its almost impossible for a young man to find true love,” he wrote .
In another post, the cleric argued that financial expectations have made dating difficult for many men. “When we were young, all you had to get was a girls phone number but now all they want to send is their account number, now you are expected to pay rent, school fees and transport before you are taken seriously,” he said .
Okonkwo directed men seeking to meet “godly well mentored ladies from all over the world” to the platform. He also clarified that the platform was not intended to suggest all women view relationships as business transactions .
The platform places mentoring before matchmaking, with members required to complete an eight-week programme of mentoring classes, assessments and guided reflection before gaining access to matching services .
Its goal is to help singles develop clarity, maturity and accountability before pursuing marriage. Members must identify as Christians aged 25 and above, and be unmarried, divorced or widowed .
Regular plan (N70,000 annually): Eight weeks of mentoring classes, access to limited profiles, accountability system, five weekly chats and country-based matching .
Premium plan (N350,000 annually): Includes Regular package features, unlimited profile browsing, monthly profile recommendations, priority access to coaches, global profiles, 10 weekly chats and private groups .
VIP package (N700,000 annually): Offers Premium features plus a dedicated matchmaker and coach, priority access to founders, 15 weekly chats, off-platform introductions, profile protection and global profile access .
The platform explicitly states that membership does not guarantee a match or marriage. It prohibits harassment, fraud, catfishing, sexually explicit content and financial exploitation .
Operated by Love, Dating and Marriage Ministries, a non-profit registered in Nigeria, the platform also offers a free singles community for those interested in marriage but not ready to commit financially .
The announcement has drawn significant criticism, particularly over the N700,000 VIP package. One X user wrote: “A ‘man of God’ in Nigeria is charging men money to link them up with women on his website… How is this different from what pimps do?” .
Another user questioned the apparent contradiction: “It’s funny how he said relationships are out of reach if you’re not rich, yet he goes ahead to charge his prospects 700k for VIP. Like, can a poor person afford 700k just to meet a girl?” .
Some questioned whether the model aligned with Christian values. One user wrote: “Btw, I thought they said na Holy Spirit dey inform who to marry in Godly relationship/marriages. So, I wanna ask, will they be ‘hearing from God’ on this platform the pastor created?”
