Guests and staff at Lagos Continental Hotel in Victoria Island were thrown into apprehension on Thursday night when the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi and his entourage reportedly got stuck inside the hotel’s elevator.
According to reports, the monarch, his wife Olori Prophetess Naomi and other members of his entourage had gone to see the ‘Queen Moremi’ stage play at the hotel.
The play had been scheduled to show at the hotel from the 24th of December 2019 till the 2nd of January 2020.
When they arrived at the hotel lobby, they were made to use the elevator to get to the hall where the play was to be shown.
However, when they entered the elevator with their entourage which reports claim were over 20, it got stuck shortly after the doors were closed.
According to eyewitnesses, the Ooni and his entourage were stuck in the elevator for almost 30 minutes before they were eventually evacuated from the basement of the hotel.
An Instagram user @mr.melange shared a series of videos from the scene showing panicking guests ranting and lambasting the hotel management.
A Twitter user Mike Mesikenor, who also witnessed the incident, took to Twitter on Thursday night to share a video of the moment the monarch and his entourage were making their way into the hall through the staircase.
He tweeted:
“So…I am at the Lagos continental hotel to as press to cover ‘Moremi the musical’ and the Ooni of Ife who is the guest of honor has been stuck in the elevator for almost 10 mins now.
“After like 20 mins. A flustered Ooni had to be ‘retrieved’ from the basement & he used the stairs.”
