Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has directed the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), Ado-Ekiti, to provide free medical care for victims recently rescued from kidnappers in Eda Oniyo, Ilejemeje Local Government Area.

According to The Punch, the governor also instructed the State Ministry of Health and Human Services to oversee the victims’ welfare, with the state government footing all medical bills.

The victims regained their freedom in the early hours of Saturday after spending more than two months in captivity following their abduction during a programme at Christ Apostolic Church, Eda Oniyo, on April 28. During the attack, a pastor was killed, while one of the abducted victims also died in captivity.

A statement by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, said the victims would remain under medical supervision until they are certified fit to reunite with their families.

Oyebanji expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for supporting efforts that led to the victims’ release and commended security agencies, traditional rulers, the Eda Oniyo community, the Christian Association of Nigeria and other stakeholders for their roles in securing their freedom.

The governor also urged those politicising the incident on social media to desist and instead support efforts to improve security across the state.

He further extended his condolences to the family of the victim who died while in captivity.
