Opposition will shake Tinubu if they’re united – Primate Ayodele

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, Primate Elijah Ayodele, founder of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, has said a united opposition alliance could mount a strong challenge against President Bola Tinubu.

In a statement issued on Sunday, April 26, through his media aide, Osho Oluwatosin, the cleric described the plan to present a single opposition candidate as a strategic step capable of putting pressure on the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), while cautioning that internal betrayal could undermine the effort.

Ayodele noted that divisions within the alliance may hinder its success, stressing that not all members appear committed to sustaining unity throughout the process. He advised the African Democratic Congress (ADC)-led coalition to prioritise cohesion if it intends to effectively confront the incumbent administration.

He also warned that the ruling party could attempt to weaken the alliance by targeting its strongest members, urging vigilance among opposition figures.

Ayodele said: “If they are united till the end, they can shake Tinubu. The president will feel the heat if they are totally united; that’s the only thing that can give the project success. “APC will find it tough if they are united, but not everyone there is ready for success. However, the government will frustrate those who have strength among them to weaken them.”

The cleric further predicted that despite its early promise, the alliance may not endure, attributing this to a lack of sincerity among some participants. He described the coalition as temporary, warning that internal betrayals could eventually lead to its collapse.

“The Alliance between opposition parties is good, it will scale through for a while, but will be destroyed later because not all of them are sincere. The alliance is for a period, and they must be careful of court cases around them because it will be intense now.”
