Photos: One feared dead as Dangote, BUA cement trucks collide on Abuja – Keffi highway

Published

There was gridlock on Abuja – Keffi highway on Sunday as two trucks carrying bags of cement were involved in a ghastly crash.

The two trucks belong to BUA Cement and Dangote Cement.

Traffic ground to a halt as the rescue teams of the Federal Road Safety Corps battled to save victims of the accident.

Many lives have been lost at the spot known to have witnessed many accidents over the years due to the sloppy landscape and bends.

An eye witness said the accident occurred around 1:30 pm when the BUA truck rammed into the Dangote truck at Kugbo mechanic bus stop on the ever-busy highway linking the Federal Capital Territory with Nasarawa State.

“The BUA truck rammed into the Dangote truck from behind. The car suffered brake failure and the driver lost control.”

The Head of Operations, FRSC Nyanya Unit, M. A Yusuf, said his men raced to the accident scene immediately the information came.

He said no life was lost but that four male occupants of the BUA truck had been rushed to the emergency ward of the Nyanya General Hospital for treatment.

Asked for details of the cause of the accident, he said,

“What we were told is that a small car caused the accident and it had been taken away before we got here. Our immediate concern is to rescue victims, we have no report now.”

But an eye witness who was involved in the rescue work said one of the victims died on the spot while two had serious fractures on their legs and the other on his hands.

“One person is dead, two persons’ legs got broken while one person arm was affected too,” he said.

Due to the resultant gridlock, motorists coming from Abuja drove against the traffic which led to total lock or roads leading into and out of Abuja.
