One dead, 150 houses destroyed as flood ravages in Jigawa

A middle-aged man lost his life as water flooded three villages in Birninkudu local government area in Jigawa state.

The dead victim identified as Yabani who is a father of two was said to have been swept away by the flooded water.

According to NIGERIAN TRIBUNE, The flood which came as a result of weeks of downpour ​has rendered several people homeless at Malamawan Gangara village after their mud houses were affected and later collapsed from the days of rainfall.

Also, farmlands with the promising crops at Babaldu were destroyed by the uncontrolled flood that defied efforts of embarkments by the residents of the village.

At Malamawa gangaran village, an estimated 150 households have been destroyed however the residents expressed gratefulness to Allah for not causing any death from the incidence.

A resident of the area Ali Muhammad said the area has never experienced such disaster since August 2007 when a similar flood swept away houses and farmlands.

He said this year’s flooding is the worst ever in the entire area.

The chairman of ​ Birnin Kudu council area Alhaji Wada Faka confirmed the incident said that the council is assessing the disaster caused by the flood while assuring that all necessary support would be made to the victims.

Mr Faka said so far there were several houses that were reported to have been destroyed by the flood and victims were advised to seek for shelter with neighbours and relatives for the time being.
