Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate and current Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential aspirant, Peter Obi, has said individuals or groups intent on disrupting Nigeria’s peace and stability would face decisive action under his administration if he is elected president.

Obi made the statement on Tuesday during an interview on the Nevon HQ podcast hosted by broadcaster and media personality, Rufai Oseni.

During the discussion, he outlined his strategy for addressing the country’s lingering security concerns and promoting national unity.

Speaking on insecurity across various regions of the country, the former Anambra State governor explained that his approach would involve a combination of dialogue and enforcement. He noted that those willing to pursue peace would be engaged through negotiations, while those determined to undermine national stability would be confronted accordingly.

“I’m going to talk with everybody. In uniting the country, anybody who wants peace, I will talk and negotiate with them. But anybody who wants war, we will go to war.

“If you want to be part of this New Nigeria we are trying to build, that is possible, we can be together, but if not, you will face the consequence of your action.”

According to Obi, sustainable peace depends on creating a society where citizens feel included and have confidence in the system. He argued that exclusion, poor governance, and unresolved grievances have contributed significantly to many of the challenges facing the country.

The former governor stated that his vision for Nigeria is anchored on fairness, inclusiveness, and equal opportunities for all citizens, irrespective of ethnic, religious, or regional affiliations.

“We have got to a point where we have to tell ourselves the truth. Nobody will be left behind. There will be inclusiveness. We will show love and care for everybody,” Obi said.

Obi further reiterated his longstanding position that military operations alone cannot resolve Nigeria’s security crisis. He maintained that effective leadership, economic empowerment, and justice must work alongside security measures to deliver lasting peace and stability across the nation.
