Obi criticizes FG’s passport fee hike

The Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, has criticized the recent increase in international passport fees.

According to Obi, this move is another example of the government’s fixation on imposing burdens on the population.

Recall that the federal government announced the hike in passport fees, with a 32-page booklet now costing ₦100,000 and a 64-page booklet costing ₦200,000.

Obi expressed his concerns on his official X platform, stating that the price of a single passport now exceeds a worker’s monthly income in Nigeria, where the new minimum wage is ₦70,000.

“It is alarming that the price of the international passport is higher than what workers earn in a month,” Obi wrote.

He emphasized that the government continues to place more burden on ordinary Nigerians, rather than making life easier for them.

Obi noted that this administration’s tendency to impose burdens is becoming legendary.
