Nursing mom assaults policewomen in police station, lands in court

A nursing mother is standing trial for allegedly assaulting two policewomen in the police station.

The suspect – one Felicia Richard – was dragged before an Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

The 36-year-old nursing mother, according to details of the offences committed, assaulted the victims in their place of work on Wednesday, February 26, 2020.

The charges against the defendant read in parts,

“Felicia Richard on the 26th day of February 2020 at about 1.00 Pm at Dada Estate Police Station in Osogbo, did assault one Insp. Akanmu Fasilat and Cpl Doubara Douboye while performing their lawful duty and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 354 of the criminal code cap 34 Vol. Il Laws of Osun State Nigeria 2002.

“She conducted herself in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace at the police station and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 249 (d) of the criminal code cap 34 Vol. II Laws of State, Nigeria 2002.”

After listening to her plea, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the two-count pressed against her.

Temitope Ayodele, who appeared for the defendant, applied for her bail, saying she was a nursing mother.

In her ruling, Magistrate Adebola Ajanaku, committed the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety.

She then adjourned the matter to Wednesday, March 25, 2020 for hearing.
