The National Universities Commission has issued licenses to 11 new private universities, increasing the total number of approved private universities in Nigeria to 159.

This was announced in a notice shared on Wednesday, April 30, 2025.

According to the NUC, the provisional licenses were given during a short ceremony held at the NUC auditorium in Abuja at 3:00 p.m.

“The NUC will issue provisional licenses to 11 new private universities at the NUC auditorium by 3:00pm,” the commission stated in a message sent to journalists.
