Notorious bandit killed in gun battle with police in Katsina
A suspected bandit, identified as Tukur Atti, has died from gunshot wounds he sustained in a battle between his gang and the police at the weekend.
WuzupNigeria reports that Atti of Zakka Village in Safana LGA of Katsina and his gang had engaged the police in a gun duel at Yakasai Village in Kurfi LGA in the state.
It was gathered that the 25-year-old and other suspected bandits had invaded Yakasai village late Saturday night where they kidnapped a 40-year-old woman, one Zainabu Hamisu, and 19-year-old Ali Muazu, male.
The suspected bandits also reportedly shot one Alhaji Audu Sabe, 70, in his face and wounded one Alhaji Hamisu Sabe on the head with a stick.
It was learnt that following a distress call, a police team stormed the village and laid an ambush for the suspected bandits.
Atti reportedly sustained injuries during the gun duel between the police team and the suspected bandits .
SP Isah said
“The DPO and team succeeded in rescuing the two kidnapped victims alive and unhurt while many of the bandits escaped with gunshots wounds. The two wounded victims were taken to Kurfi General Hospital for treatment.
“Search party was dispatched to comb the nearby forest with a view to arresting wounded or killed bandits and to recover their operational weapons. Consequently, today( Sunday) 08/03/2020 at about 10:00hrs, one of the wounded bandits, identified as one Tukur Atti, alias “TUKURU”, m, 25yrs of Ummadau , Zakka village, Safana LGA of Katsina state, a notorious member of group of bandits terrorizing Kurfi, Batsari and Safana LGA of Katsina state, was found fatally wounded and unconscious in the forest.
“He died on the way to the hospital and was certified died by the attending physician. Investigation is ongoing.”
In another development, SP Isah disclosed that the police have also recovered eighteen sheep and eight goats suspected to have been stolen.
According to him, the domestic animals were recovered from two suspected bandits on Friday evening who reportedly took to their heels on sighting the police team led by DPO, Kurfi.
He said the animals have been handed over to Katsina state Government’s Committee on recovered animals, adding that investigation was in progress on the incident.
