Northwest govs, AfDB to explore agro-industrialization potential

In a strategic move to harness the transformative potential of the Special Agro-Industrialisation Programme, seven governors from Nigeria’s North West region are set to embark on a journey to Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. 

The governors, representing Zamfara, Sokoto, Jigawa, Kaduna, Katsina, Kano, and Kebbi states, are scheduled to depart on Wednesday and engage in a series of discussions and briefings aimed at unlocking the program’s opportunities for their respective states.

According to a statement released by the spokesperson for the Zamfara Governor, Sulaiman Idris, on Wednesday, a key highlight of the visit will be a meeting with Dr Akinwumi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank, on November 16, 2023. 

 “The Northwest governors will meet with Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, the African Development Bank President, and his team.

“The meeting is scheduled for November 16, 2023, and will include presentations and briefings on utilising the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones program.

“The Special Agro-Industrialisation Programme aims to achieve food self-sufficiency, create jobs and boost economic growth by processing raw agricultural commodities in areas with high potential.

“Dr. Beth Dunford, Vice President of Agriculture, Human and Social Development at the African Development Bank, will guide the Governors on the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZs) and what states must do to benefit from the programme.” the statement read.
