The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has confirmed that no loss of life was recorded following a fire outbreak at Terminal 1 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, currently undergoing reconstruction by the Federal Government.
Eyewitnesses said people around the terminal scampered for safety immediately the fire started, as emergency responders moved swiftly to the scene to contain the blaze.
Sharing details of the incident on X, FAAN disclosed that firefighters and other emergency personnel were promptly activated.
In a statement, the authority said: “FAAN wishes to inform the public of a fire outbreak at Terminal 1 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos. Our firefighting team is currently responding and working to contain the situation. No loss of life has been recorded.”
Teams from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and FAAN Fire Service are currently battling to bring the blaze under control.
Margaret Adeseye, Controller-General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, also confirmed that no lives were lost in the incident.
Efforts to fully extinguish the fire were ongoing at press time, while the cause of the outbreak had yet to be determined.
