The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Nentawe Yilwatda, has announced that the party has no immediate plans to extend the sale of Expression of Interest and Nomination forms for aspirants preparing for the 2027 general elections.
Yilwatda made this known while addressing journalists during his visit to the Abuja Continental Hotel, formerly known as Sheraton, where the forms are currently being distributed.
Although the APC scheduled the sale of forms between April 25 and May 2, 2026, the process officially began on Tuesday, a few days behind the original timeline.
Despite the delayed commencement, the APC chairman emphasized that the party remains committed to its approved timetable.
He added that any consideration for extending the deadline would rest with the National Working Committee (NWC).
“There is a timeline for activities. If we are to consider any extension, we will follow due process. We will reconvene the National Working Committee, and it will decide whether there will be an extension or not. For now, there is no extension,” he said.
Yilwatda praised the orderly conduct of the ongoing exercise, noting that the smooth sale of forms reflects the party’s readiness for its primary elections and confidence ahead of the general polls.
He further described the APC as one of Nigeria’s most democratic political platforms, highlighting its openness to all members to contest elective positions without barriers.
“As we know, our party is one of the most democratic political parties in Nigeria. As you can see, people are streaming in to buy forms freely, with no restrictions. Someone has even picked a form to contest for president; it shows the level of democracy we have in Nigeria.
“Sitting governors are being challenged, the sitting president is being challenged, and senators are also being challenged. The number of people coming to contest in our party shows that it is the most acceptable political party in Nigeria.
“We have no challenges in selling forms. The banks have been doing the needful, our staff are handling clearances, and people are being issued their forms. The department responsible for receipts has been issuing them, and there have been no complaints at our help desk.”
