Rwanda Azam Premier League club, AS Kigali, has signed Nigerian striker, Aboubakar Lawal, on a two-year deal.
Lawal, who had been on trial for days in AS Kigali, was on Friday, November 6, 2020, awarded the contract after impressing team coach Eric Nshimiyimana in two friendly games.
The Nigerian forward scored three goals in both matches.
The club hope the Nigerian will assist them in next year’s league tournament and in the CAF Confederations Cup which will take place later this month.
Lawal scored two goals in his recent friendly against Interforce, scored another goal in the 4-0 defeat of Vision.
After the Interforce match, Nshimiyimana said of the striker: “The striker we have been working with for days, he is a player who has a lot of tricks, he is a player who knows how to stand on the pitch, he knows how to play with others, he is a player who meets all the requirements of the striker, the rest is to give him a lot of games, the days we spent together I saw him as a good striker,” he said.
In August this year, another Rwanda Football League side, Musanze FC, signed Nigerian striker, Abbey Natty, from Gor Mahia of Kenya on a one-year contract.
Lawal, 21, joins Musanze from Kenyan league champions, having also played for Western Stima FC in 2012 and Muhoroni Youth FC in 2013.
Rwanda’s 2020/21 season is scheduled to get underway in December.
Striker Lawal has been added to the list of new players bought by AS Kigali this year including Hakizimana Muhadjiri, Rugirayabo Hassan, Emery Bayisenge, Shabani Hussein Tchabalala and Biramahire Abeddy from Buildcon in Zambia.
