Niger renames Minna airport after Tinubu
The Niger State Government has announced its readiness to welcome President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday, March 12, 2024, for the commissioning of various projects. As part of the preparations, the state disclosed that Minna Airport has been renamed Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport.
The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Hajiya Binta Manmman, assured the public of the meticulous arrangements made for the President’s visit. She stated during a press briefing in Minna, “I am pleased to announce that all necessary arrangements have been meticulously put in place to welcome Mr. President tomorrow.”
President Tinubu is expected to commission the remodelled and upgraded terminal at Minna International Airport, which was initially a federal government initiative.
The project faced delays, leading the state government to take control under the administration of Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, ensuring its expedited completion after consultations with relevant authorities.
Mrs. Binta Manmman highlighted that the President would also commission advanced agricultural mechanization equipment procured by the state government and lay the foundation stone for the Hajj terminal, facilitating the airlift of pilgrims to Mecca.
Explaining the decision to rename the airport after President Tinubu, the commissioner emphasized the support Niger State receives from the federal government.
She stated, “These acquisitions align with our shared goal of achieving food security and supporting the national agendas of both federal and state governments.”
The renaming of the airport serves as a recognition of the President’s visit and underscores the collaborative efforts between the federal and state governments in advancing development initiatives in Niger State.
