Niger Abduction: Buhari charges security forces to hasten rescue of Islamic students
The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd) has charged the security and intelligence agencies in the country to expedite efforts to rescue the abducted Islamic school students.
WUZUPNIGERIA reported that at least one person was killed while another was left injured when gunmen stormed Islamiyya school in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State and abducted 200 students on Sunday.
Reacting to the news on Monday night, the president condemned the abduction of the students, describing the incident as unfortunate.
In the statement released by his spokesperson, Gaba Shehu, Buhari urged all the agencies involved in the rescue operation to do their utmost in securing their immediate release.
“President Muhammadu Buhari has charged the nation’s security and intelligence agencies to expedite efforts towards the recovery of the 200 children kidnapped from an Islamic school in Niger State.
“The President, who received briefing on the latest incident of school kidnapping, condemned as unfortunate, the kidnapping of children from schools and urged all the agencies involved in the rescue operation to do their utmost in securing their immediate release.
“He also directed that the concerned government agencies to extend possible support to the families of the kidnapped children,” the statement read.
