The President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick, revealed that he will bow out from the football body’s hot seat at the end of his tenure.
Pinnick has been under pressure with many Nigerians calling for his resignation following the Super Eagles’ failure to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Speaking in an interview with Arise TV on Friday, Pinnick who has been the NFF president since 2014 revealed that he would not be running for a third term when his tenure as president is over.
He said, “Am I eligible to run? Yes! I am eligible to run based on our [NFF] status. Do I want to run at this moment? It’s a no-no because my family says so at the moment.”
“My family is very key to me, family first. They say that I’ve put in my all and put in my best. They say that it’s taken a toll on me and taken a toll on the family. They believe that it’s time that I move on. It’s a regrettable decision, but it’s the best.”
Pinnick has been in charge of football in the country since September 2014. He was also re-elected in September 2018, for the second term of four years.
