Ogun State Police Command says said its operatives have arrested a 21-year-old armed suspect in connection with a robbery incident at the Sango-Ota area.
Ogun police spokesman, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday in Ota, Ogun.
Oyeyemi said the suspect was nabbed on September 14 following a distress call received by the police at about 9.45 p.m.
According to him, the suspect was a member of a two-man car-snatching gang who attacked one Rasaq Hamed at Ile Pupa Iloye area, in Sango-Ota, during a futile effort to dispossess him of his car.
“Upon the information, the Divisional Police Officer, Sango-Ota, CSP Godwin Idehai, quickly mobilized his patrol team and moved to the scene.
“On getting to the scene, the robbers, who were shooting sporadically, took to their heels, but they were hotly chased and one of them was arrested with the help of members of the community, while the other one escaped,” he said.
The PPRO said that police recovered four live cartridges and one expended cartridge from the suspects.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun, CP Edward Ajogun, had ordered a massive manhunt for the fleeing member of the gang.
He also directed that the suspect arrested should be transferred to State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation.
