Kebbi boat accident devastating, says Buhari
The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd) has described the boat mishap where many people reportedly died on Wednesday as devastating.
Reacting in a statement signed by his Spokesperson, Garba Shehu, in the early hours of Thursday, Buhari expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims.
WUZUNIGERIA reported that at least about 140 persons reportedly drowned in the boat accident which occurred in Ngaski Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
Reports revealed that the boat which conveyed over 160 persons was on its way to Warra town in Kebbi State from a market in Malele in Borgu local government area of Niger state.
While rescue operations are still ongoing, the president extended his gratitude to all persons involved in the rescue efforts of other survivors.
"President Muhammadu Buhari has described the news of the capsizing of a boat in Ngaski Local Government Area of Kebbi State as devastating, offering his heartfelt condolences to the families of those affected by this tragedy.
"From media reports, there are indications that the boat was overloaded and there is no official confirmation on the number of casualties.
"While efforts are ongoing to recover more survivors, the President extends his gratitude to all those involved in the rescue efforts and wishes those injured from the accident quick recovery," the statement read.
