The Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission has awarded Certificates of Return to the newly elected chairmen of the 13 local government areas in the state.
At a ceremony held on Monday at the commission’s headquarters, NASIEC Chairman, Barrister Ayuba Usman Wandai, presented the certificates, marking the end of a process he described as transparent and credible.
Wandai praised the NASIEC team and partners, stating, “I am proud to say that NASIEC conducted these elections with a clear commitment to fairness and integrity. This presentation of Certificates of Return is our final responsibility in the electoral process, as mandated by law.”
The All Progressives Congress claimed a sweeping victory in the elections, winning all 13 chairmanship seats. Out of 147 wards, APC candidates won 140 councillorship seats, with the Social Democratic Party securing five and the Zenith Labour Party taking two.
Wandai thanked the various stakeholders involved in the elections, especially security agencies for their role in keeping peace, traditional leaders for their support, and the Inter-Party Advisory Council for its constructive participation. He also recognized the contribution of the media, calling their coverage “unbiased and essential to the success of the election.”
Wandai expressed his appreciation to Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, and the State House of Assembly, crediting their support for the smooth conduct of the polls. “Special thanks go to His Excellency, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule, the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, for his continuous support and respect for NASIEC’s independence,” he said.
Wandai encouraged any parties dissatisfied with the results to pursue legal channels for redress, adding that democracy provides these avenues.
