The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has alerted the public to the circulation and sale of counterfeit Kiss Condoms in several markets across Nigeria.

In a public notice, the agency said the warning followed information received from DKT International Nigeria, the Marketing Authorisation Holder for Kiss Condom.
DKT International Nigeria is a non-governmental organisation involved in contraceptive social marketing, with a mandate to provide affordable and safe family planning products, as well as support HIV and AIDS prevention efforts in the country.

Kiss Condom is a brand of male latex condoms developed for sexual protection, primarily to help prevent unintended pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) such as HIV, gonorrhea, and syphilis.

According to the agency, the counterfeit products have been detected in major commercial hubs, including Onitsha Market in Anambra State, as well as Idumota Market and Trade Fair Market in Lagos State.

NAFDAC also listed other locations where the fake condoms have reportedly surfaced, including markets in Kano, Abuja, Uyo, Gombe and Enugu.

“The Fake Kiss Condom has been reported to be found in Onitsha Market, Idumota Market, Trade Fair Market, and various markets in Kano, Abuja, Uyo, Gombe, Enugu, and others” NAFDAC said.
The agency reiterated that Kiss Condom is a registered brand of male latex condoms intended for sexual protection.

It added that the product is designed to prevent unwanted pregnancy and lower the risk of contracting sexually transmitted infections such as HIV, gonorrhoea and syphilis.

NAFDAC warned that the distribution of counterfeit condoms poses serious public health concerns, as such products may fail to meet approved safety and quality standards.

The agency advised consumers to be vigilant and ensure condoms are purchased from trusted and reputable sources.
The agency further urged distributors, retailers and the general public to report any suspected fake Kiss Condoms to the nearest NAFDAC office for prompt regulatory action.

NAFDAC assured that it would sustain surveillance and regulatory enforcement to safeguard public health and ensure that only approved and quality medical and consumer health products are available across Nigeria.
