Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Prof. Kingsley Moghalu, has rejected his inclusion in the policy team of the African Democratic Congress presidential campaign ahead of the 2027 general election.
Moghalu said he was neither consulted nor gave approval for his name to be included in the campaign structure unveiled by former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar on Thursday.
The economist made his position known in a statement shared on his verified X account, shortly after the ADC presidential campaign announced the members of its Presidential Campaign Council.
The campaign had appointed economist and banker Mohammed Hayatudeen as chairman of its Policy Team, while Moghalu and Prof. Mohammed Sagagi were listed as members.
Responding to the announcement, Moghalu said he was surprised to find his name among the members of Atiku’s policy team, stressing that he had not been approached before the announcement.
He said he neither consented to nor authorised the publication of his name as part of the campaign structure.
Moghalu also clarified that he had no formal or informal role in Atiku’s policy team and was not serving as an adviser to the ADC presidential candidate.
According to him, he withdrew from partisan politics in 2022 and has maintained a non-partisan position on political and national issues since then.
“I am not a member or sympathizer of any political party in Nigeria,” he said.
The former CBN deputy governor said his current professional engagements include serving as President of IGET Africa, a public policy think tank and executive education academy, and Chief Executive Officer of Sogato Strategies, a firm focused on geopolitical risk and regulatory strategy.
Moghalu emphasised that his continued involvement in national development should not be construed as support for any political party or candidate.
He said his commitment to Nigeria remained intact but insisted that patriotism did not require partisan political affiliation.
“I have adopted the path of statesmanship, not partisanship,” he said.
His clarification followed the unveiling of Atiku’s campaign leadership structure for the 2027 presidential election.
Under the structure announced by the campaign, Kashim Ibrahim-Imam was named chairman, while former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai was appointed deputy chairman. Senator Austin Akobundu was named Director-General and Campaign Manager.
The campaign also announced six major directorates, with responsibilities assigned to various officials as preparations intensify for the 2027 presidential contest.
