Mob burns community police station over alleged killing of youth
A group of aggrieved youths on Tuesday set ablaze the Ihitte/Uboma Divisional Police headquarters at Ishinweke town in Imo State.
The Punch reports that the attack on the station was stoked by the alleged killing of a youth in the area by a police officer.
A police spokesperson in the state, Orlando Ikeokwualso, confirmed the reprisal attack that left two other officers injured.
Narrating the incident, Ikeokwu revealed that the deceased youth was hit by a stray bullet when youths reportedly attacked policemen during a raid in the area and successfully freed a suspect.
The PPRO however added that the injured youth sadly passed away after he was rushed to a hospital.
Ikeokwu said more policemen had been deployed to the station, adding that the state Commissioner of police, Narisu Muhammed, had ordered an investigation into the arson and manslaughter incident.
