Mikel Obi signs contract extension with Stoke City
A former captain of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, John Mikel Obi, has reportedly penned a contract extension with Stoke City.
Obi, who signed for the Potters last summer after leaving Turkish Super Lig side Trabzonspor, is now expected to remain at the Bet 365 stadium until the summer of 2022.
The former Chelsea player played 41 times for the Potters in the 2020/21 season and was one of the most influential players during the campaign.
The Championship side announced that they reached an agreement with Mikel to extend their relationship for another twelve months.
A statement on the club website reads: “Contract extensions have been activated to retain the services of defender James Chester and midfielder John Obi Mikel.”
The 34-year-old will hoping to help the Club challenge for promotion back to the premier league next season.
Stoke City finished the just-concluded campaign in 14th with 60 points from 46 matches.
