Manchester United close to signing £25m Longstaff
Manchester United are edging closer to landing Sean Longstaff from Newcastle United, according to reports.
Mirror Sport state that the Red Devils are confident they can capture the signature of the 21-year-old.
Longstaff has been long linked with a move to Old Trafford after impressing during his limited opportunities at the Magpies.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer intends to build on the £25m capture of Daniel James from Swansea by securing the services of Longstaff, as part of his Old Trafford rebuild.
Although Toon midfielder Longstaff pledged his future to Newcastle in an interview earlier this month, United are confident they can land the 21-year-old.
Longstaff impressed in the Premier League last campaign where he started 11 consecutive games, only for a knee injury to cut short his season in March.
And the uncertainty at Newcastle, with a proposed takeover imminent and the future of boss Rafa Benitez up in the air, is not thought to be an obstacle to United’s pursuit of Longstaff.
