Justice M.T.M. Aliyu of the Kaduna High Court on Thursday sentenced one Christian Emmanuel to three years imprisonment for fraud.

Emmanuel was charged with impersonation and fraud by the Kaduna Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The judge sentenced Emmanuel after he pleaded guilty to the charges and begged for mercy.

Justice Aliyu, however, gave the convict an option of N2 million fine and warned him to desist from the life of crime.

He further ordered the convict to pay N40 million as restitution to the complainant, Ajayi Segun, and said that failure to do so could result in the convict serving another two years jail term.

Earlier, Counsel to the EFCC, E.K. Garba, said the defendant was arrested by the commission following an intel-driven covert trailing of his fraudulent activities.

Garba said the defendant was impersonating a staff of First Bank through which he defrauded the complainant of N40 million.

He said that the defendant committed an offence, contrary to and punishable under Section 142(1) of the Penalty Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
