Former England captain Wayne Rooney has openly voiced his enthusiasm for potentially serving as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City, expressing a willingness to forsake his ties to Manchester United.

Following his recent dismissal as Birmingham City manager, the ex-England captain emphasized his admiration for Guardiola’s coaching acumen and referenced Mikel Arteta’s achievements at Arsenal as a testament to Guardiola’s mentorship.

In an interview on the Stick To Football podcast, Rooney stated, “If Pep Guardiola comes in and asks me to be his assistant, I’d walk there.”

He further elaborated, highlighting Arteta’s progression and attributing much of it to his apprenticeship under Guardiola: “You see what Arteta is doing now, and I strongly believe a lot of that is from learning what Guardiola was doing.”
