Man Utd edge Aston Villa 2-1
Manchester United edged closer to the Premier League’s top four on Sunday with a hard-fought win at Villa Park, courtesy of a late goal by Scott McTominay.
McTominay’s decisive header, planted past Emiliano Martinez with just four minutes remaining, secured the crucial victory for United.
Despite an energetic performance by Aston Villa, led by Jacob Ramsey’s prominence in the first half, it was Rasmus Hojlund who opened the scoring for United after 17 minutes. However, Villa continued to create better opportunities throughout the match.
Midway through the second half, Villa deservedly equalized as Douglas Luiz capitalized on a loose ball following a corner.
As the game appeared headed for a draw, McTominay’s intervention in the dying moments clinched victory for United.
Erik ten Hag’s side remains in sixth place, trailing Aston Villa by five points and Tottenham by six in the race for Champions League qualification.
