Man trafficks 1,040 tons of Indian hemp to Lagos

A 43-year-old man named Obiefule Nwagha has been apprehended by the police for allegedly trafficking a significant amount of illicit drugs, specifically 1,040 tons of Indian hemp, at the Ilufe waterside jetty in the Alaba International Market area of Ojo, Lagos State.

The incident, which took place on April 17 around 4:30 p.m., saw detectives from the Tactical Squad, Ijaniki, tracking a white Mercedes Benz mini-truck to the Ilufe Waterside Jetty. Upon investigation, it was discovered that a flying boat was offloading a substantial quantity of substances suspected to be Indian hemp.

A police source from the division, speaking anonymously due to lack of authorization, disclosed, “One Obiefule Nwagha, aged 43, was arrested at the waterside jetty.” Thirteen sacks containing a total of 1,040 wraps of the suspected illicit substance were seized. The driver of the white Mercedes Benz mini-truck claimed that he was acting on orders from an individual named Ifeanyi to transport the substances from Alaba International Market Ojo to Waterside Jetty Alaba.

Confirming the incident, Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, stated that investigations were ongoing, with efforts being made to apprehend Ifeanyi. He affirmed, “The investigation is ongoing, and effort is on to track and arrest the said Ifeanyi.”
