A 30-year-old man, Sani Hassan, on Friday appeared in a Chief Magistrates’ Court, Kaduna, for allegedly stealing 10 bags of maize worth N300,000.
The police charged Hassan, who resides in Kawo Kaduna State, with shop breaking and theft.
The prosecution counsel, Insp. Chidi Leo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Oct. 31, at Kasuwa Dole, Kawo, Kaduna State.
Leo told the court that the complaint was filed by Shehu Haruna, of Kawo, at the State Criminal and Investigation Department (SCID), Kaduna.
He alleged that the defendant broke into the complainant’s store located at Kasuwa Dole, Kaduna, and stole 10 bags of maize.
The prosecutor said that the defendant was arrested by a security man at the market when he went back to the shop after the theft of the 10 bags of maize, to steal more.
The offences, Leo said, contravened the provisions of sections 333 and 271 of the Penal Code Law of Kaduna State, 2017.
Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Emmanuel ordered that the two sureties must be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years tax payment to the Kaduna State Government.
The magistrate adjourned the case until Jan. 23, for hearing.
